Finding Your Way to Serve

LISTEN TO THE FULL EPISODE:

So often when we hear about our veterans, we hear about their brave service, their healthcare access or their mental health needs, but we don’t often talk about their incredible entrepreneurial potential and ways to tap into it. Today’s guest, Meghan Ogilvie, grew up in a military family and is the CEO of Dog Tag Bakery, an organization focused on empowering veterans, military spouses and caregivers to tap into their entrepreneurial spirit. While a traditional military career wasn’t her path, Meghan’s business background and desire to serve the military community blend perfectly at Dog Tag Bakery. Nikki and Meghan discuss what it means to embody your authentic leadership values and ethos while creating a safe, inclusive space for your community to be seen and thrive.

QUOTES

  • “When I'm able to be vulnerable, look at what it activates in my connection with other people. Look what permission it gives for us to be more whole humans as we're trying to figure out things we don't know the answer to.” –Nikki

  • “No matter what our labels are, we're still all human.” –Nikki

  • “Recognizing the humanity of life is that simple. We are just so connected in that simple way. And people can be both, right? They can be introverts and happy and/or sad – extroverts, depressed and angry. It doesn't have to be black and white. Life is exceptionally gray.” –Meghan

  • “Less than 6% today of veterans are starting their own businesses. Less than 1% of our population volunteers to serve the country. 60% of those that we're recruiting right now come from military families. So this population is so isolating, right? It's only becoming smaller and smaller. And the struggle is there's this 99% that I'm part of, that you're a part of, that if we don't connect on this human level and recognize the value out of those who have served both home and abroad, it's a national crisis in different ways.” –Meghan
