Reviving Erased Black History
LISTEN TO THE FULL EPISODE:
Black history has been systemically erased for centuries. For so many, our family history and lineage have been hidden from our understanding, but today’s guest is telling those erased stories while creating space for collective healing. Portugal was the birthplace of the Trans Atlantic slave trade and Naky G takes folks on a walking tour back through time to bear witness to the humanity and stories of those who were kidnapped from their homeland and forced into labor and an oppressed life in a new land. With the rise of the extreme threat of white supremacy and how dehumanizing it is for us all, Naky’s work brings us back to our shared humanity and invites us all to gain a more nuanced understanding of how we got to where we are and how we can come together to make the future a better more inclusive place. His tour, the African Tour of Lisbon, showcases the incredible impact that Black people have had on the modern world, culturally, economically, socially and beyond.
